Create Scrapbooks Using Free Images from the Internet

Written by bmlengel on August 26th, 2009

Now that so many good scrapbooking paper and embellishment designers are Internet savvy, the Internet is full of free vintage scrapbook papers. As long as you know how to do an Internet search and download files, you can find all the designs you need to create delightful scrapbooks. That’s why famous artist Mary Englebreit recently remarked that the Internet is a great source of scrapbooking designs that will yield almost anything you might need. And she’s an authority on quality images; products featuring her illustrations on them fly off the shelves as soon as they’re released!

The following are samples of some of the types of free scrapbooking materials I’ve found on the Internet:

Babies and Children

Like weddings, the birth and growth years of a baby often generate a lot of photos. And what scrapbooker wouldn’t want to pass down a distinctive baby scrapbook to her child as he or she gets older? Fortunately, this can be done for next to nothing using just scrapbooking images from the Internet. If you’re not up on baby images, however, you might find the color schemes a little surprising these days. Burnt orange, chocolate brown and red are all the rage, as well as a few specific shades of green. Blue and pink are still popular, of course, but these days there are many bold color choices too. And for older kids, there is a lot of free clip art that reflects special interests, for example swimming images, football clip art and baseball clip art.

Vintage

More and more people seem to be searching for vintage scrapbook designs. Maybe that’s because vintage art is so timeless and doesn’t date the final product to any particular modern era. Antique greeting cards make wonderful vintage scrapbooking embellishments, as does antique clip art. And when you can find digital scrapbooking papers made from compilations of vintage images, you’ll have the best of both worlds. Antique art also covers a range of subjects, including images as diverse as Victorian fashion illustrations, magic show posters, vintage flowers, nautical images and vintage advertising posters. So whatever the topic of your scrapbook, you can probably find antique art to match.

Holiday

Holidays just naturally invite scrapbooking, since those are the times we gather with friends and family to create special memories. And Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Valentine’s Day aren’t the only holidays that make people want to create scrapbooks; many people are interested in the minor holidays too. There are all kinds of patriotic scrapbooking papers and embellishments online for holidays such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Fourth of July and Flag Day. There are also many images out there for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Earth Day and any other holiday you can think of; even the silly or off-beat ones.

Floral and Butterfly

People who scrapbook seem to love flowers of all kinds, and why not? They work for nearly any occasion. Butterflies attract a large audience too, because they represent summertime, freedom, happiness and other cheerful things. Flowers and butterflies are also diverse, because you can find them in both illustration and photographic form, and in modern and vintage forms. You can even find butterfly scrapbooking embellishments that span both vintage and modern in the same collections.

Wedding Images

Weddings and scrapbooks were made to go together, because it’s always been a tradition to have a wedding photo album. But a wedding scrapbook can offer an even more creative way to preserve your precious memories. There are many good free wedding scrapbooking images on the Web that will allow you to create one of these very special mementos with no or little cost. And if for some reason you don’t find any specifically for weddings that appeal to you, flower images would also be a great choice.

So the next time you need scrapbook materials, check the Internet. You might find some amazing free things.
